Registered attendance for NeoCon 2017 rose 7% above reported 2016 figures as 75 new companies joined the exhibitor
roster at The Mart in Chicago June 12 to 14. “We went into this year strong – showrooms were at capacity and there were 28% ‘new to NeoCon’ brands in our sold out 7th Floor Exhibit Hall,” said Byron Morton, vice president of leasing for NeoCon Shows. “The buzz continued to build with three full days of sold-out keynotes, at-capacity CEU
sessions, innovative product launches and dynamic networking events. We look forward to leveraging this momentum as we get ready for NeoCon’s 50th anniversary in 2018.”
Offiicals reported that NeoCon attendees enjoyed The Mart’s brand new 2nd Floor lounge, Marshall’s Landing, designed by A+I Architects and operated by DMK Restaurant Group and a new venue for keynotes and seminars on the 19th Floor. Rich programming and a wealth of special events, parties, award ceremonies and inspiring exhibits made for a productive and fun show.
Sit/stand solutions, privacy pods, ergonomic seating, integrated technologies and high-performance textiles were among five of the top trends seen throughout the show. The talks and topics headlined by keynotes Arianna Huffington, Jessica Green and John Ronan and the debut of “Icons @ NeoCon” gave further insight into the future
of commercial interiors.

Textile companies offered Nano-Tex enhanced fabric at the NeoCon show. Nano-Tex,a leading fabric innovation company providing nanotechnology-based textile enhancements to the apparel and commercial interiors markets, continues to expand into the commercial interiors market with the addition of three new companies who will incorporate the company’s stain resistant fabric treatment into their product line to protect the integrity and beauty of their designs.
By pairing garments from established fashion designers with chairs from leading contract furniture manufacturers, Brentano created Fashio Next NeoCon, an exhibition celebrating the creative worlds of fashion, fabrics, and furniture through traditional and imaginative textile applications. In its second year, Fashio Next also demonstrated the ability of thoughtful partnerships to move companies forward in an economy of tight budgets. With chairs from Allermuir, Andreu World America, and Leland, Fashio Next offered each company new avenues for reaching their NeoCon audience.

The Carpet and Rug Institute was also an exhibitor at NeoCon. For Trendway Corporation, NeoCon 2017 provided a launching point for new products, all of which will be available to the public by the end of the summer.
The winners of the 2017 Best of NeoCon Competition were announced on June 12, during an awards breakfast hosted by
Contract at the Renaissance Hotel in Chicago. Ninety-six awards were distributed in this year’s competition of contract furnishing products, including 10 Innovation Awards and a Best of Competition Award. Tandus earned two Best of NeoCon Gold Awards for the Bas Relief Series by its product brand Monterey as well as for its Inunison Virtual Image Sampling Folders. Balancing design, technology and sustainability within inunison, its new product
system, Tandus demonstrated at this year’s NeoCon how its four product types – modular, woven, broadloom and six-foot Powerbond – can work across the Monterey, C&A, and Crossley brands. The Day Dream Collection of Sunbrella Contract with Defiance fabrics recently won a Silver award in the Best of NeoCon Awards, which is one of the highest trade conference recognitions.
Jurors are architects and designers, as well as corporate, education, healthcare, and government facilities management executives who are responsible for selecting and buying furniture and furnishings for their clients or organizations. Entries are previewed digitally by the jurors who then visit NeoCon showrooms in teams at theMart prior to the opening day of NeoCon. Honors include Gold and Silver Awards, as well as Innovation Awards, Editors’
Choice Awards, and one Best of Competition Award. Winners are honored at the Best of NeoCon Awards Breakfast on the Monday morning of NeoCon, and are published in the July/August issue of Contract. The Best of NeoCon is sponsored by Contract magazine, NeoCon, The International Interior Design Association (IIDA), The International Facility Management Association (IFMA), and The McMorrow Reports for Facilities Design & Management.
Also, Michigan companies wowed the judges at NeoCon 2017. A walk through NeoCon gave a glimpse of the future of
the workplace. The heart of this industry is headquartered in West Michigan. RT London introduced Turner, new
lounge seating. The Grand Rapids furniture company is a major player in the Residence Hall furniture market, with over 400 college and university customers. Coalesse, a San Francisco-based division of Steelcase, unveiled signature outdoor spaces with the EMU series: Kira tables by Christophe Pillet, the Lyze Series by Florent Coirier and Terramare Series by Studio Chiaramonte/ Marin. Steelcase Health introduced the Surround Collection, seating designed to provide a comfortable place in a patient’s hospital room for family and friends to sit. Designed to fit in hospital room’s tight quarters and be easy to clean, the couch can expand into a bed. Turnstone’s new Campfire Standing Slim Table is inspired by a front porch, and intended to be a natural space for people to gather around, lean back and reflect together.
It may be mentioned that the exhibition is complemented by first-class educational programming featuring close to 100 accredited seminars, special programs and keynote presentations. The Vertical Markets include workplace, Healthcare, Hospitality, Retail, Education, Public Spaces and Government. NeoCon 2018, the 50th anniversary event, will be held from June 11-13 at the Mart. NeoCon East returns to Philadelphia for the 15 th annual edition, November 15-16, 2017 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
